At age 20, Corey Forbes is already something of a familiar sight in North Coast Football.
The towering keeper – “I’m 6 foot 2 or 3” – has been playing the beautiful game non-stop since the Under 6s, plying his craft for both Macksville and his current club Nambucca Strikers.
And he well remembers his first game in senior football at age 15 for the Strikers.
“It was an FFA Cup match against Grafton and I was nervous as all hell,” Corey said.
But that ordination by fire revealed the talent and courage within.
“It went down to a penalty shootout and I saved three from five and we went through to the next round,” Corey said.
The young stopper who works at a bee farm said the transition from junior to senior football was massive.
“It’s just really fast-paced and a lot more physical and competitive,” he said.
“I like playing keeper because of the importance of the position. You can win the game or lose the game. It’s hard, but it’s fun.”
