At just 16 years of age Kyan Page is one out of the box – and he’s Boambee’s Special K.
The serial striker has long been in the fast lane toward the top, and is already entrenched in the Bombers first grade Coastal Premier League line-up.
But it’s been no Jack Flash rise to the highest level of North Coast Football, as Kyan has been putting in the hard metres since the age of six or seven.
Playing through the various age groups, Kyan was soon identified as a player of interest, representing North Coast in the NPL in the 13s and 14s – when he added a third ‘boot’ to his arsenal, that of the ‘golden’ variety as top scorer.
Returning to clubland and Boambee, he turned out for their 17s as a centre back, while getting a taste in seniors as a striker.
His first dip in the waters of CPL was as a 15-year-old.
“I was the youngest, pretty nervous and really didn’t know what to expect,” Kyan said.
“But I listened to the advice that I got and just took that under my wing.”
Last year Kyan started in the Boambee reserves before injuries saw him shuttled into the firsts.
The contrast to junior football was stark.
“It’s a lot more physical. People know what they are doing and there’s just quality all over the park,” Kyan said.
“It is a big step up, but I love it now.”
