It is unrealised by some that the preparation of match officials can be as thorough if not more so, than that of the players.
While footballers have been going through the motions on steamy summer nights, officials too have been in preseason mode – getting themselves set for 2021.
NCF Zone Admninistrator Referees David Horseman has already run a Level 4 course this year – consisting of an online option then a practical session.
“We had eight on that course – all new and one returning referee who had been out of the game for a couple of years who was back for a refresh on the law changes,” David said.
Further courses will be rolled out – with dates to be confirmed – including a face-to-face session.
A referees preseason seminar was held at the weekend at Woolgoolga.
Overall, match official numbers across NCF are broadly on a par with last season.
“Numbers are stagnant – maybe just improving on last year, so we’re looking to top those up,” David said.
“We’re always encouraging more people to come onboard.”
