Round Three of the NPL was another away fixture, and with the confidence drawn from Round One’s performances, all three teams excelled against strong Newcastle opposition to prove they belong at this elite level. Our opposition was Valentine FC, who were missing some key players in several divisions. NCF 13’s won 4-0, NCF 14’s won 5-0 and the NCF 15’s fought back from a 2-0 defecit to win 4-2.
13’s Manager Simon McKinney: NCF 13’S continued their excellent start to the NNSW PS4NPL Competition with a convincing 4-0 victory over Valentine FC at Speers Point on Saturday. The 13’s were 3-0 up at halftime with the Clarence combination of Charlie Kelly scoring a double & Miles Hartmann scoring in the first half. The boys held the Valentine attack well in the second half with Jacob Field scoring mid way through the half. The boys are now looking forward to taking on the Emerging Jets at home in Coffs Harbour next Sunday.
14’s Coach Adrian Pickup: Under 14’s – The Under 14’s Boys were exceptional in Newcastle, and for the second week in a row played through their opposition. Coffs youngster Mabior Garang scored 4 and Sawtell based Zane Skrtic scored one. Mabior played a great game at Centre Forward, and the team behind him were equally exceptional, keeping a clean sheet and controlling the game well.
15’s Coach Brian Linsley: Under 15’s – Valentine surprised our 15’s side coming out much stronger and putting two on the scoreboard within 10 minutes. We made some changes and targeted their weak spots, and immediately the boys responded, a goal to Charlie Alderman and one to Aaron Searle levelled the scores before halftime.
Valentine ran out of steam in the second half, and we started to dominate possession. It was impressive to see our boys using what we’ve been practising in training, especially the response time from attack to defence. For the chances we created in the second half, we should have scored more goals, but a good result nonetheless, to win 4-2 away from home.
