NORTH Coast Football’s Skill Acquisition Phase (SAP) Program is up and running in 2022

April 19th, 2022

The SAP program provides a clear and professionally delivered development opportunity for girls and boys between the ages of 9 and 12 on the North Coast.

The program is held from November to September and features two 75-minute training sessions a week at the Coffs Coast Sport & Leisure Park, which is in addition to the players’ club commitments.

The SAP program focuses on the development of four core skills; 1v1, first touch, striking the ball, and running with the ball.

North Coast Football’s SAP Program is run by Alex Nolan, who explained what the program had to offer.

“The SAP program offers players two extra sessions a week on top of their community football training,” he said.

“Training focuses on mastering the ball and actions on the field, developing their perception, decision making and execution of actions.

“Players are involved in a monthly carnival with teams across northern NSW.

“The NPL program offers players three sessions a week; two sessions a week focusing on game training and one session focusing on strength, conditioning, speed and agility.”

Nolan highlighted the SAP program offers pathways to big-time football.

“The SAP and NPL Program offer talented footballers a chance to develop as an athlete; technically, tactically, physically and psychologically,” he said.

“The programs allow players to challenge themselves against the best players in Northern NSW and offer pathways to players identified for State and National teams and A-League and W-League clubs.”

North Coast Football’s SAP program places an emphasis on development rather than winning matches, although players are encouraged to develop a “winning mentality” through their actions and attitude.

The SAP program is about young footballers serious about developing their skills and furthering themselves in their playing years to come.
