Julia Etel doubles down for Northern Storm

June 29th, 2021

When Julia Etel’s sons started playing football with Northern Storm, little did she realise it would soon become a package deal.
That’s what happened as Julia found herself become increasingly involved with the club.
So much so that Julia has just been named the Newcastle Permanent Volunteer of the Month for June.
“I’ve been with the club for about five years, though it’s only been in the past three that I’ve become heavily involved,” Julia said.
As a coach of one of the Storm’s four Under 9s teams, and as a manager for an Under 11s side – there’s much to do.
“But we have a lot of people who do a lot of hard work – from the canteen ladies through to John who runs the barbecue and has a drum set to boost the atmosphere,” Julia said.
The family-friendly club makes involvement a pleasure, not a chore.
“I like getting my own kids involved in a very healthy sport. Plus it’s all about learning team work with like-minded people in everything from the social to the competitive age groups,” she said.
Julia said it was noticeable that many players would watch and support teams in other grades, right through to the Storm’s Coastal Premier League outfits.
“It’s a really lovely club. It’s not all about winning, it’s about trying hard,” Julia said
