High of the tiger – Coffs Coast blessed
It’s as delightful as it is mysterious – an exponential organic growth in the senior ranks at the Coffs Coast Tigers.
“I don’t think it’s any one thing that we’ve done – but our senior numbers are significantly up, and we’ve got lots of new talented players coming in,” Tigers president Mellessa Bennett said.
“We’ll have a first grade and reserves in the CPL, a men’s 2nd Division team and an Over 35s which we haven’t had for many years so that’s fantastic.
“We had a number of Premier League reserves retire because they didn’t want to continue at that level – but they wanted to keep playing all the same and that’s given us an Over 35s.”
Mellessa said the Tigers junior numbers were steady.
“Every club is always looking for more, and we’ve got a couple of vacancies that we want to fill, but overall the numbers are good,” she said.
The Tigers opened their 2021 football account in the best fashion possible – with a solid win over Nambucca in testing conditions last week in a round of the FFA Cup.
“The preparation has been a bit tricky with the rain but we’ve been lucky to get some indoor venues and doing a lot of strength and conditioning work which is awfully important,” Mellessa said.
