Eight Edgeworth Players chosen to Represent Northern NSW

July 15th, 2016

Eight Players from Edgeworth Eagles have been selected to take on Newcastle Jets in a friendly pre-season fixture.

For the first time in three years, Northern NSW Football has selected a representative squad from the PlayStation ® 4 National Premier League competition to play a friendly fixture against the Newcastle Jets on Wednesday, July 20, at Magic Park.

This highlights how strong Edgeworth’s squad is, and how well the Urunga Raiders did against such high-class opposition.

The Northern NSW Football PlayStation 4 NPL 2015 Coach of the Year, Damian Zane from Edgeworth Eagles, has been appointed as the head coach of the select team and will be assisted by Shane Pryce, from Charlestown City Blues.

Zane, whom has experience of leading a squad to play against an A-League side, taking Edgeworth into the Round of 16 against Melbourne City in last year’s Westfield FFA Cup, is looking forward to the opportunity.

“I have selected a predominately young and talented squad from the competition that will give us a lot of mobility against the Jets,” Zane said of his Select Team.

“Players like Daniel McBreen and Josh Evans will bring the team experience in key positions on the park.”

“I have selected a larger squad given there is another round of NPL to be played prior to this match and I believe working with this group as a whole will give us the depth to cover injuries and withdrawals, should they occur prior to the match.”

Newcastle Jets Coach, Scott Miller believes the match would be a great opportunity not only for his team to prepare for their upcoming Westfield FFA Cup match but to develop even stronger ties with Northern NSW local football clubs and players.

“This is an important game for the community and a great chance for the club to continue to enhance its links with Northern New South Wales Football and local National Premier Leagues clubs,” Miller said.

“The fixture against the Northern NSW select side on July 20 will be our first game of the pre-season and will provide us with the chance to improve our football fitness and begin to identify flexibility in systems of play within our squad ahead of our Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 Match against Melbourne Victory in early August,” Miller concluded.

The game will kick off from 7:00pm on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at Magic Park Broadmeadow.
