HERE they go again
The Coffs City United Lions have progressed to the sixth round of the Australia Cup with a 4-1 victory against Port Saints at the Coffs Football Centre.
The Thursday night win sees the Lions take their place amongst the last 64 clubs in Australia.
The Lions have proven to be knockout cup specialists, having also made the Round of 64 in last year’s FFA Cup.
The Lions will look to go one better than last year as they await to take on a Newcastle-based club for a spot in the national Round of 32.
Coffs United continued where they left off in recent weeks, having all the early running and chances which they capitalised on with a successful penalty shot in the 10th minute.
Doubles to Lorenzo Rigoni and Blake Townsend and a penalty save from Will Goodwin (pictured) saw the Lions progress to the sixth round of the national knockout competition.
Lions coach Glen Williams said the score line didn’t reflect the solid nature of the win.
“We didn’t dominate as the score says, we were outnumbered in the midfield early but changed it up and stayed solid from there on,” he said.
The Coffs Coast Tigers will look to join the Lions in the sixth round of the Australia Cup when they take on Oxley Vale Attunga in Tamworth this weekend.
The Lions and Tigers are the last two North Coast Football clubs remaining in this year’s Australia Cup.
