A break well earned for Mr Macksville

October 14th, 2020
Macksville Football Club’s Paul Coulter has spent the better part of his life in and around the Stingers.
He started playing for the Reds as a six-year-old and in later years has been a driving force organising much of the off-field things.
Now at age 32, Paul has been named the Newcastle Permanent Community Award Volunteer of the Month for October – and he’s about to take a breather from the game.
“You know when it’s time,” he said after running around for the Stingers this year in the men’s 3rd Division South competition.
It’s Paul’s contribution behind the scenes for the club which has been stunning.
Last year he initiated a new summer futsal competition.
“I spent close to 12 to 20 hours a week running that. Futsal produces better players than outdoor football – there’s more speed, faster decision making and it basically develops better attacking players,” he said.
Paul said his wife was glad to see him stepping away from the club as the time commitment can be heavy.
Yet volunteering is not without its satisfactions.
“It’s always nice to see things go well because of your work,” Paul said.
