The two North Coast Football Woolgoolga 13 years girls teams played each on the first weekend of the school holidays before a split in the competition takes place.

The two teams, who train together each week, have been rivals for the first half of this year, but will now play in separate divisions with North Coast Football splitting the 13 years girls competition into two divisions from the resumption of play on July 19th. The Woolgoolga Waves will play in division one while the Sharks will play in division two.

On Saturday, as the photo indicates, the players and coaching staff treated their last meeting for the year as a fun day. In fact the two teams were mixed for the first time on the field and the players dressed in streamers, ribbons and whatever other theatrical costume they could find.

No one can remember the score.

The Sawtell Football Club Recipe for Fun

Ingredients:

A flat, open grassy space, with parking nearby for numerous spectators.

A couple of Small Sided Games Coordinators.

Parents - assorted shapes, sizes, ages and sporting abilities; all with one thing in common - a love of their children and a willingness to cope with the Saturday morning clamber of football-booted feet as excitement rises before THE BIG GAME (isn't every week THE BIG GAME?).

Several pop-up goals.

A countless number of coloured cone markers.

A canteen providing buckets of hot chips and red frogs for after-game rewards & refreshments.

and last, but not least...

An abundance of very active, fun-loving children of assorted ages between 5 and 9years.

Method:

1. Get the coordinators to the ground early on Saturday morning

2. Un-flip the popup goals (without hitting yourself in the face!)

3. Walk several hundred metres setting out cones and positioning goals

4. Watch and wait... 'they will come' (to use the words from a famous baseball movie)

5. Observe, smile, giggle and feel proud as the 2018 / 2022 / 2026 World Cup Socceroo & Matilda stars strut their stuff

6. Enjoy their delight as the boys and girls play before, during... and after the whistle.

7. Pack up and do it all again next week, because the end product is so priceless!

The above recipe is a no-fail Mother's favourite, guaranteed to succeed each and every Saturday of the Football season.

Football Scholarship Program

INTENSIVE
TRAINING
CENTRE

North Coast Football is offering a football scholarship program to all NCF registered players wishing to enhance their football development through participation in its Intensive Training Centre.

The Intensive Training Centre (ITC) will run at two locations, Grafton (northern region) to cater for players living in the Clarence Valley, and Coffs Harbour (southern region) for players living on the Coffs Coast. The ITC will accommodate the following age groups:

Academy Feeder Program - players aged 10 and 11 years (born 1997-98)

Academy Program - players aged 12 to 16 years (born 1992-96)

Players selected into the ITC will be registered to play with their local club side and will only be called upon to play for NCF at irregular intervals during the season.

The ITC will be a comprehensive training program that will be offered to players identified by NCF coaching staff seeking to develop their technical attributes and tactical awareness skills in a highly motive learning environment. The ITC will provide players with the opportunity to develop correct ball techniques in a stable learning environment that will initially provide a pressure free environment while the fundamentals are being learnt to an environment that will increase the pressure as competency levels increase.

Participating players will receive the following training regimes:

Speed, Agility & Quickness Development

SAQ development will be undertaken to enable players to become better athletes.

         introduce and reinforce football-specific techniques at match speed;

         reinforce basic co-ordination skills (fast feet, jumping, running &n turning);

         provide for quick reaction to visual, auditory and tactical stimuli;

         enhance anticipation through familiarity with typical game situations; and

         provide rapid attack/defence switching through exercises in tight spaces.

Technical Development:

Technical development will be undertaken to perfect technique for all players, irrespective of their playing position.

         ability appropriate full range of ball techniques, feints and fakes;

         controlled yet creative ball control;

         training that allows players to learn to play by playing; and

         techniques adapted at increased speed once the technical foundation is
         achieved.

Tactical Development:

Tactical development will be undertaken to encourage players to become versatile & creative.

         individual attack based training sessions as a precursor to group tactics;

         versatile, accurate high speed training activities;

         training activities that enable the player to exhibit confident, flexible ball
         control;

         training activities that build a solid attack with combination play;

         training activities that allow a player to move with the ball;

         training activities that provide opportunities to win the ball quickly; and

         training activities to promote creativity, independence and self-confidence.

ITC Programs on Offer:

Academy Feeder Program

Who: players aged 10 to 11 years (born 1997-98) at time of enrolment

Cost: $200 annum (~$3:50 per training session)

Training parameters will consist of a Summer program providing approximately 28 training sessions:

commencing mid October and running for 8 weeks, twice weekly (post season)

recommencing late January and running for 6 weeks, twice weekly (pre season)

Training parameters will consist of a Winter program providing approximately 28 training sessions:

commencing March, at the conclusion of the Summer program, and running through to August, once weekly plus some school holiday sessions (in season)

AFP players also have the choice and opportunity to train & play with their local club

Academy Program

Who: players aged 12 to 16 years (born 1992-96) at time of enrolment

Cost: $300 per annum (~$3:50 per training session)

Training parameters will consist of a Summer program providing approximately 28 training sessions:

commencing mid October and running for 8 weeks, twice weekly (post season)

recommencing late January and running for 6 weeks, twice weekly (pre season)

Training parameters will consist of a Winter program providing approximately 56 training sessions:

commencing March, at the conclusion of the Summer program, and running through to August, twice weekly plus some school holiday sessions (in season)

Academy players will be encouraged to restrict their training sessions to only involve the ITC training, however they will have the opportunity to play & train with their local club

ITC Player Numbers:

ITC player numbers will be restricted to no more than 76 players across the NCF Zone in order to provide all participating payers with the optimum learning environment.

Nambucca News

The junior Nambucca Strikers teams played football on the long weekend.

Juniors:


The Nambucca Under 12s started early in Bellingen. Wayne, the coach looked nervous but he was going to his wedding after the game.

Caleb R. got an early goal and this gave the team confidence to play a very attacking style of game. Max worked hard, backing up in defence and bringing the ball all the way up to attack the goal several times.

The Bello keeper did well to deny the Strikers any more in the first half. Nambucca continued to combine well all across the park and another shot from Caleb was pushed out by the keeper, only to have Harley follow in and slot it in the net.

Bello counter attacked but our keeper, Skye, snuffed out some good shots with a very safe pair of hands. Late in the game Nambucca's shots only found the posts but we already had the points. Bellingen 0 Nambucca 2.

The Nambucca 10s Reds travelled to Bello' to play against Bellingen. Bellingen got the lion's share of the goals in the first half. However the Strikers dominated play in the 2nd half.

Alec used his height and speed well to control the midfield. Hamish showed some spunk, including a surprisingly, big boot through to the forwards.

Lawson T. had a cracking right foot shot that took an exceptional save from Bello's keeper to stop. Lachie P. tore through the opposition up the left wing many times but somehow Bello hung on to prevent Nambucca scoring.

Many thanks to Jack from Bello who played with us and did a superb job as keeper.

Next Week:
The home games for the Strikers football teams this coming weekend kick off with the 16/17 Boys on Friday 13th June at 6pm at Coronation Park. On Saturday the 14th the Under 12s start at 9 am, then the 10s Red and 15 Boys. The Mens 3rd Div. take on the Yamba Breakers at 3 pm.

The Women's teams have two games this week - the rescheduled game against the Coffs Lionesses is at Coronation Park on Thursday night from 6 pm. On Saturday they play Northern Storm at York St, Coffs Harbour.

Young Referees selected for Elite Training

Five junior referees from the North Coast Football Zone have been accepted into an exclusive training program which equips young referees (aged 16-24) with the knowledge and skill to become top rank whistle blowers.

The five are; Mitchell Jones (Grafton), Simon Ellis (Sapphire), Amanda Riley (Central Bucca), Alec Jones (Coffs Harbour) and Lee Miles-Ward (Nambucca Heads).

Each was nominated by the local Referees Standing Committee and now pack their bags for UNE Armidale on Monday for four days of intensive training and scrutiny.

The Referees' Development Camp has become an annual fixture and is held in conjunction with a similar camp for emerging players. The young referees will spend some of the time controlling games the players are involved in at the camp.

The Referees' Development Camp will also be used for the selection of Northern NSW referees to officiate at the National Titles in Coffs Harbour in July and October.

Last Wednesday night, the NCF board agreed to fully pay for each of the five local referees to attend the camp which, at $300 per head, means an outlay of $1500. A small price to pay for the development of local referees.

Tony Barselaar Memorial Shield


Coffs United and Woolgoolga play for Barselaar Shield

This Saturday Coffs United and Woolgoolga United Football Clubs will play their own competition within a competition. It is called The Tony Barselaar Memorial Shield in memory of its late namesake who was an important figure in the early development of both clubs.

On Saturday seven teams from Coffs United and Woolgoolga will line up against each other in round two of North Coast Football's 2008 season. The competition points from those games will go towards their respective winners in each clash as normal, but they will also count towards the final tally in the Shield contest.

The Tony Barselaar Memorial Shield has not been played for two years, but prior to that was a yearly feature on the calendar since 1995, the year after Tony passed away. To make the contest possible, however, all Coffs United and Woolgoolga teams must play each other in the same round and that is what is happening this weekend.

The Shield clash commences on Friday night with the Coffs Lions and Woolgoolga Sharks hobbling out for an Over 35's game at BCU International Stadium.

On Saturday, seven more teams will do battle, all at Woolgoolga's High Street fields, the venue for this year's Shield. The draw is as follows;
8.30am - 17 years girls
9.55am - 12 years boys
10.30am - 15 years boys
1.00pm - Women's 2nd division
3.00pm - Women's 1st division
3.00pm - Men's 2nd division
5.00pm - Men's 1st division.

It's three points for a win, two for a score draw and one for a scoreless draw.

A tally board will be displayed near the Woolgoolga club's canteen which will carry the live total for each club throughout the day. The club which scores the most points at the end of the day will be presented with the winning trophy at the Seaview Tavern following the Men's 1st division game.

Grassroots Coaching Course - MACLEAN & MACKSVILLE


Grassroots Coaching CourseS will be held:
at Wherret Park, Maclean on Saturday 10 May 2008
at North Macksville Park, Macksville NOW on Sunday 18 May 2008.

The course runs for three hours and will commence at:
2.00pm (Maclean)
9.00am (Macksville)

Maximum number of candidates is 24
- the first clubs in with their numbers will be accepted.

Could clubs please provide the NCF office with participant numbers by no later than this Friday morning.

Cost of the course is $25 per participant. NCF will refund $10 per participant to the clubs as part of its support in having coaches educated.

Grassroots Coaching Courses & Coaches Update


Grassroots Coaching Courses will be held at Maclean Street, Coffs Harbour on Saturday 12 April 2008 & Bellingen on Wednesday 30 April 2008. The courses run for three hours.

North Coast Football Zone will be requiring all clubs to put their coaches through a grassroots coaching course. This will be mandatory by 2010. As a build up Bruce Wallace is keen to conduct these courses this season for any clubs who are interested.

Maximum number of candidates is 24
- the first clubs in with their numbers will be accepted.
Bellingen, Coffs United and Coffs Tigers will take preference as they are the organising clubs.

Could Coffs Harbour clubs please provide the NCF office with participant numbers by no later than this Friday morning.

Cost of the course is $25 per participant. NCF will refund $10 per participant to the clubs as part of its support in having coaches educated.

Some activity handouts will be made available on the night to selected coaches from each club.
