New FFA Coach Education
structure for 2007 onwards

From January 1st, 2007, Coach Education in Australia will be conducted under a new framework.

There will be TWO coach education pathways for aspiring coaches to choose from, the COMMUNITY PATHWAY or the ADVANCED PATHWAY.

This new system is a result of Australia’s acceptance as a member of AFC (The Asian Football Confederation) and our desire to offer high-performance Coach Education courses.

A, B and C Certificate courses will be offered in Australia from next year onwards, and will effectively replace FFA’s old 'State' and 'National' Licences. These courses will be approved by AFC and will be conducted by FFA in Australia. (Advanced coaches will be pleased to note that AFC accreditation is recognised as equivalent by UEFA, Europe's governing body.)

Main differences between the two pathways:

COMMUNITY ADVANCED
Shorter duration From 2 to 4 weeks in length
Less expensive Intensive, residential courses
Conducted locally by
States and territories
Conducted by FFA,
usually in central venues

COMMUNITY PATHWAY
The COMMUNITY PATHWAY will obviously continue to be the preferred choice for the majority of our coaches. The Community Certificates will accordingly be revamped in 2007.

In addition, a new Community Certificate will be introduced next year: the GRASSROOTS FOOTBALL CERTIFICATE will be aimed primarily at those coaching U-6 to U-10 kids' teams.

ADVANCED PATHWAY
This pathway is aimed at the professional and semi-professional coach, and also at experienced players who wish to pursue a coaching career. However, any coach with a minimum of a Community Junior Football Certificate, who believes they are suitable, can apply to enrol on an Advanced C Certificate course.

COURSE LENGTH APPROX. COST TENTATIVE DATES
A certificate 4 weeks
(in 2-week blocks)
$5200 26/5/07 - 9/6/07
(Part A*)

C certificate 2 weeks $2900 3/3/07 - 18/3/07

(* Part A is the first two weeks of the course. Part B will be conducted in 2008.)

CONVERSION OF CURRENT ACCREDITATIONS

Currently-accredited FFA coaches will be converted as follows:
FFA NATIONAL LICENCE = A CERTIFICATE
FFA STATE LICENCE = B CERTIFICATE
FFA SENIOR LICENCE = C CERTIFICATE

Coaches do not need to apply for this conversion, as FFA will automatically accredit all coaches on our database with the relevant accreditation.

IMPORTANT:
Coaches gaining the FFA Senior Certificate after 30 November 2006, will NOT be converted to a C Certificate, and must make entry to the ADVANCED pathway at C Certificate level.

Only currently-accredited Senior, State and National Licence holders will be automatically converted to the new ADVANCED accreditation. If your accreditation has lapsed, you will not gain the conversion.

Please check your FFA database details via www.footballaustralia.com.au
If you require assistance, please contact your State or Territory Association.
